Researchers across the UK to use latest tech and major data bank to better predict where devastating floods and droughts will strike
innovators will also pioneer new ways of tackling the worst of extreme weather to halt damage and cut eye-watering cost to the economy
sensors in UK rivers and real time monitoring will gather priceless data that goes towards modelling the potential impact and likely flashpoints

Appleby, combined sewer outflows into the River Eden saw 46 spills. At Kirkby Stephen on the River Eden, there were 135 spills. At Staveley on the River Kent, there were
283 spills. At Tebay on the River Lune, there were 124 spills.-" You've got to wonder why the Rivers Trust aren't publicising those figures themselves!

the
Government
has
committed
to
looking
at
the
funding
for
flood
schemes.
This
is
something
we
have
long
been
pushing
for
and
we
are
keen
to
know
more
about
the
Government's
plans
and
ensuring
that
flooded
peoples
voices are heard in any consultation.

about
80
cms

lunchtime
yesterday
until
lunchtime
today.
What
a
relief
to
still
have
loads
of
space
upstream.

pumps
at
Penrith
Road
and
Elliott
Park
I
think
many
folk
have
less
to
worry
about
these
days.
The
BBC
said
we'd
had
62mm
of
rain
in
town
yesterday
but
it
was
managed.
The
new
storage
pond
at
Springs
Road
clearly
helps
hold
back
water
across
town,
gradually
releasing it to the river.

The
founder
of
a
flood
action
group
has
accused
her
council
of
removing
support,
saying
residents are now "basically on our own".
Lis
Dales,
from
Castle
Street
Community
Flood
Action
Group
in
Kendal,
Cumbria,
said
the
change could put lives at risk and was "bordering on the negligent".
Other
community
groups
in
the
county
have
raised
concerns,
saying
that
more
could
be
done to protect people.

Village’s £1.7m flood prevention scheme completed
Flimby
in
west
Cumbria
was
among
the
first
to
be
flooded
during
Storm
Desmond
on
3
December,
2015,
two
days
before
Cockermouth and Keswick were left under water.
About
100
homes
in
the
village
were
affected
and
it
is
hoped
the
£1.7m flood alleviation scheme will help to protect them.
